Cycling in Hungary

Our bicycle trip today is from Visigard to Estergom; both are small cities in Hungary. Hungary is not a member of the European union so we convert our money into florens at the rate of 1 to 250. We have 2 ferries to take today to get back and forth across the Danube. We calculate carefully how to spend our money so we have enough florens to pay for the ferry. The land we travel thru is rolling hills with farmers fields separated by small hardwood trees. We had about a 10 mph headwind but the sky was mostly sunny and the path paved.and well maintained.

It is clear that for many people here, the bicycle is their only mode of transportation. The economy is obviously struggling to find work for its people with mostly agriculture and tourism as the base. It was novel to us to find that a portion of the taxes pay for the clergy. In Hungary, 60 percent are catholic and 30 percent Lutheran.
