Passau, Germany

Sue enjoying a local wine in Passau

Passau is a scenic town at the junction of three rivers; the Danube, the Liz and the Inn rivers. Narrow streets and cobblestones create a labyrinth on the peninsula between the rivers. Originally a Roman outpost, this city is on the hillside between the Danube, and rivers. This town of 50,000 was a center for astronomy during the middle ages and continues to have a broader view of the universe.

Currently, the rivers are high with spring runoff and rains. They rose almost a foot Sunday night and the path we walked yesterday is now underwater. These rivers are big and the Danube at this location has several times the water of the snake river and is pushing along at about 14 knots.
