Driving into Paris

Generally driving in France was a pleasant experience. Contrary to our fears, other drivers tend to give-way and assist merging and turning traffic. On narrow roads, these are survival behaviors.

However, at the end of our week of renting a car, we needed to return it to a different location from the airport. The new location required us to drive through metropolitan Paris. Even though it was Sunday, the traffic in some parts was intense and we circled the Arc de Triomphe with eight layers of cars side-by-side merging and diverging to get to the right intersection. When we finally arrived at the Hertz location to drop off the car we were relieved and ready for a stiff drink.
